The Tragedy Of Hamlet By William Shakespeare - 1543 Words

Shakespeare’s play, The Tragedy of Hamlet, seems to have a domino effect. As Hamlet tries to get his revenge, he brings ruin upon the kingdom. Hamlet is self-doubtful; he doubts himself to a point where he does not know what is true in his life. He constantly contradicts himself, causing many people, whose death was unintended, to die. In Williams Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Hamlet, in order to portray Hamlet’s tragedy, Shakespeare uses soliloquies, metaphors, symbolism, and anti-thesis. Shakespeare utilizes soliloquies to develop and offer insight into the characters and specifically Hamlet. In Act 1, Scene 2, Hamlet begins his first soliloquy by saying, â€Å"O, that this too too solid flesh would melt, Thaw and resolve itself into a dew† (I .ii.129-130). In this phrase itself, Shakespeare is using repetition, imagery and metaphor. He uses repetition to emphasize the flesh and imagery helps us to picture the flesh â€Å"melting.† The metaphor tha t is used here is Shakespeare comparing solid flesh to liquid dew. What Hamlet meant in this quote is that he wants to disappear almost as if he were to melt away, however, Shakespeare uses this method to bring the theme of death into the story. This is also expresses Hamlet’s feelings at the time; his father has just passed and his mother has remarried so quickly that Hamlet has not had enough time to mourn. Southern colonies required staple crops to rapidly develop economically, as a transition occurred in the labor force it became cheaper to produce staple crops to exports to Britain’s growing demand. The three major staples of rice, indigo, and cotton helped develop the Sothern colonies economy. Colonial wars and British industrialization played a big role in boosting the southern economy, however the South’s dependency of plantation agriculture economically ruined the Southern economy during the civil war through the lack of developing other industries. A key development for the south to rapidly develop their economy was the shift in the labour force from indentured white European servants to black African slaves. In 1609 the Virginia Company used their own resources to pay for European servants to migrate to America and become part of the labor force. The demand for labor rose sharply during the tobacco boom of 1619 . As a consequence of the tobacco boom the Virginia indenture system was created. English skilled migrants were transported at the Virginia Company’s expense from England to Virginia were bound to work a fixed terms of years, were sold outright for the duration of those terms to planters when the servants arrived in the colony . These contracts typically sold for  £10 to  £11 in the eighteenth century, nearly double the cost of passage .
